Ø  28th February: World Rare Disease Day
Ø  The World Rare Disease Day was observed across the globe on 28 February, 2018 with the aim to raise awareness about rare diseases and their impacts. The day was commemorated with events in over 80 countries and regions across the world. The day was coordinated by the European Organisation for Rare Diseases (EURORDIS), which promotes research on rare diseases and commercial development of orphan drugs. It is observed on the last day of February each year.
Ø  28th February: National Science Day
Ø  The National Science Day is observed every year on 28th February with an objective to spread message of importance of science and its application among the people. The theme for National Science Day 2018 is “Science and Technology for a sustainable future”. The day is observed to mark the discovery of Raman effect by Physicist CV Raman on 28th February, 1928. For his discovery, CV Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.
Ø  21 February: International Mother Language Day
Ø  The International Mother Language Day 2018 was observed across the world on February 21 with an aim to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. The day promotes the dissemination of mother tongues to encourage linguistic diversity and multilingual education with an aim to develop fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world. The theme of 2018 International Mother Language Day is ‘Linguistic diversity and multilingualism count for sustainable development’.
Ø  13 February: World Radio Day
Ø  Every year 13 February is observed as the World radio Day. Radio is the mass medium reaching the widest audience in the world. World Radio Day is about celebrating radio, why we love it and why we need it today more than ever. It is a day to remember the unique power of radio to touch lives and bring people together across every corner of the globe. For the year 2018, the theme of the world Radio day is Radio and Sports. This year it is the seventh edition of World Radio Day. This year the world radio day will be focusing on diversity and equality in ‘Radio and Sports’.
Ø  6 February: International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation
Ø  The International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation was observed on February 6, 2018. The day is observed every year to eradicate the practice of female genital mutilation. It was first introduced in 2003. Female Genital mutilation (FGM) comprises producers that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons. It is recognised internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women.
Ø  4th February: World Cancer Day
Ø  World Cancer Day is being observed on 4th February every year to raise awareness about cancer, its treatment and to encourage methods of its prevention. The primary goal of the day is to reduce the illness and related deaths by 2020. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated a medical camp at Swarna Bharat Trust, Atkur in Andhra Pradesh organised on the occasion of World Cancer Day.
January 4th to commemorate the contribution of Louis Braille for blind people of the world. He invented a reading and writing system which helped blind people in learning and reading. The day marks the importance of teaching and providing equal opportunity to blind people and highlights the problems faced by them. The Braille system is a representation of letters and symbols within a grid in rows. The inventor, Louis Braille created the system after he went blind at the age of five due to an accident.
