APPOINTMENTS

Ø  Christine appointed as envoy on Myanmar by UN
Ø  UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed Christine Schraner Burgener of Switzerland as his new special envoy on Myanmar. Burgener was the Ambassador of Switzerland to Germany since 2015.
Ø  Indu Malhotra, first senior woman advocate to become SC Judge
Ø  In a first, senior advocate Indu Malhotra is set to become the first woman lawyer to be appointed as Supreme Court Judge. The Union Law Ministry has reportedly cleared her name for the position. With the decision, Malhotra will be the first woman lawyer to be directly appointed from the Bar as a Judge in the Apex Court.
Ø  Indian airports got its 1st woman firefighter
Ø  Airports Authority of India (AAI) has appointed its first woman firefighter, Taniya Sanyal. Taniya is currently undergoing training in Delhi and will be appointed for AAI’s eastern region airports.
Ø  Dilip Chenoy takes over as FICCI Secretary General
Ø  Dilip Chenoy was appointed as the Secretary-General of industry body Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He has replaced Sanjaya Baru. Chenoy was working as Director General of the industry body.
Ø  Lt Gen PP Malhotra takes over as Director-General of NCC
Ø  Lieutenant General PP Malhotra assumed charge as Director General of National Cadet Corps (NCC), the largest uniformed youth organization in the world. Prior to assuming his present appointment, he was the Chief Engineer of the Army’s premier Northern Command.
Ø  Bhanu Pratap Sharma replaces Vinod Rai as chairman of Banks Board Bureau
Ø  The Union Finance Ministry has reconstituted Banks Board Bureau (BBB) and appointed former bureaucrat Bhanu Pratap Sharma as its chairman.

Ø  Rakesh Bharti Mittal new CII President
Ø  Bharti Enterprises Vice-Chairman Rakesh Bharti Mittal assumed the office of the President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2018-19. Uday Kotak, Founder and CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank took over as President-Designate of CII for 2018-19. Vikram Kirloskar is the new Vice-President of CII for the current fiscal.
Ø  Wipro’s Rishad Premji new Nasscom chairman
Ø  Global software major Wipro’s Chief Strategy Officer Rishad Premji has been appointed the new Nasscom Chairman for 2018-19.
Ø  Rajesh Ranjan appointed as DG of CISF
Ø  The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appointed senior IPS officer Rajesh Ranjan as Director General of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
Ø  Lionel Messi named UN ambassador
Ø  The UN World Tourism Organization has appointed FC Barcelona’s Argentine star Lionel Messi as an ambassador to promote responsible tourism.
Ø  Balram Bhargava appointed DG of ICMR.
Ø  The Union Government has appointed AIIMS professor Balram Bhargava as Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Secretary of the Department of Health Research. Bharagava, at present Professor and Senior Consultant Cardiologist at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
Ø  Ban Ki-moon named Boao Forum chair
Ø  Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was elected chairman of the Boao Forum for Asia, which is currently underway in China’s Hainan province. Ban replaced Japan’s Yasuo Fukuda.
Ø  SBI Life appoints Sanjeev Nautiyal as New MD & CEO
Ø  SBI Life Insurance appointed Sanjeev Nautiyal as its new Managing Director and CEO. He replaces Arijit Basu, who takes over a key role in the State Bank of India Group.
Ø  Subrata Bhattacharjee appointed as Next Ambassador of India to Serbia
Ø  Subrata Bhattacharjee has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Serbia. He is an IFS officer of 1989 batch. He is currently Joint Secretary in Ministry of External Affairs.
Ø  Arun Jaitley re-appointed as leader of RS
Ø  Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was once again appointed as the Leader of the Rajya Sabha (RS) following his re-election to the House. In June 2014, Mr Jaitley was appointed the leader of the House in Rajya Sabha. The Leader of the House is a Rajya Sabha member who is either a cabinet minister or another nominated minister.
Ø  Debjani Ghosh appointed new president of Nasscom
Ø  Debjani Ghosh, former managing director of Intel South Asia, is the new president of Nasscom. Ms Ghosh was the first woman to lead Intel India and MAIT (Manufacturers’ Association for Information Technology).
Ø  Government appoints Vineet Joshi as first DG of National Testing Agency
Ø  Government has appointed former chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Vineet Joshi, as the first Director-General (DG) of the National Testing Agency (NTA). He is 1992-batch IAS officer of the Manipur cadre.
Ø  Senior bureaucrat Chandra Bhushan Kumar appointed as Deputy Election Commissioner

Ø  Senior bureaucrat Chandra Bhushan Kumar has been appointed as Deputy Election Commissioner as part of a major bureaucratic reshuffle by the government. Bhushan, a 1995 batch IAS officer of union territories cadre, has been appointed to the post for five years, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said.
